Established in the 1920s, Elmwood Park Zoo has grown into an idyllic natural setting for captive animals, with a strong emphasis on creatures from the North and South Americas. Since the 1990s, additions such as the Cougar Cafe and the Lenore Weiss Nature Shop have supplemented a species collection that includes fruit bats, howler monkeys, tree frogs, and many more. The zoo lies just north of downtown, on the east edge of Elmwood Park.
